iOS 26 is already projected to launch as a significant seismic shift in iPhone software, and not merely in name alone.
Now, it is thought to introduce a feature known as Depth Pro, rated to convert 2D images into 3D wallpapers.
That might seem underwhelming, but is apparently the result of cutting-edge Apple research that can isolate the subject of a given image to generate "dynamic" depth-of-field effects relative to it in as little as 0.3 seconds.
Accordingly, the feature (leaked courtesy of the Weibo account Fixed Focus Digital, not Jon Prosser) might result from the same developments that has given us the Spatial Video and Photo tools that convert iPhone footage into Vision Pro-worthy content.
It follows that Depth Pro might indeed blend right in to the new Liquid Glass UI, thought to bring Apple handsets in line with the OEM's AR headset.
Should this new tip be accurate, prospective iPhone 18-series users might end up eager to turn their own photos into new custom 3D homescreen backgrounds.
They might be disappointed, though, as the feature is depicted as exclusive to the iPhone Fold that might also debut in 2026 instead.
